Historic Trail Bay Gaol
Trail Bay Gaol was established as a public works prison in the 1870's to keep prison labourers, brought
to Arakoon to build a breakwater designed to make Trail Bay a safe harbour between Sydney and Brisbane.
During the first World War, the Gaol was used as a camp for people of German descent, interned by the
government as possible 'enemy' sympathisers.
The Gaol is open daily for self-guided tours. Guided tours are also offered.
You can contact the Gaol on (02) 6566 6168 for more information.
